When General Bert and I established the Natural Solutions Foundation in 2004 I warned everyone, and I repeated the warning over the past decade: “A day will soon come when it will be illegal for you to grow your own wholesome, organic food and trade it with your neighbors.”

That day has come to pass. Today, local, natural, family farm and garden production is under heavy government attack all across the former Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

This would seem to embody the USDA’s advisory, “Know your farmer, know your food,” right? Not exactly.

For the USDA and its sister food regulator, the FDA, there’s a problem: many of the farmers are distributing the food via private contracts like herd shares and leasing arrangements, which fall outside the regulatory system of state and local retail licenses and inspections that govern public food sales.
