Gold has been the transition currency between one form of wealth and another for thousands of years. There is nothing inherently wonderful about gold. It is a symbol, a meme, a mental construct. As such, we collectively give it the power to transcend nations, empires, tyrannies, systems and, yes, globalization.

But it is a tricky business, this gold thing: if you don’t have it when you need it, there is no trick at all: you are vulnerable to whatever hits your economy (think Venezuela’s ordinary citizens). If you have it, you have to be able to spend, barter, leverage, trade, in short, USE the gold that you have.

I do not want ounces of gold in my possession, or coins of questionable provenance and value (the guy with the food is not a numismatist and most likely does not know the extraordinary worth of your ancient Roman coin!).

I want small, certified, mint condition (literally!) pieces of gold in gram sizes, in a security card, with which I can protect myself and my loved ones.

I want gold that can be EASILY transported, and, if need be, hidden. I want gold that can be traded or bartered off for smallish purchases instead of spending my ounces-sized stash in one go because I have no way to subdivide it and I need what I need NOW (like food or shelter),

So I personally am delighted to have a mechanism for acquiring small-quantities of gold that is in perfect condition, verified by an internationally recognized entity, transportable, inconspicuous (if need be) and sized for eventual use, should the need arise, or holding, should the situation allow.
