My co-trustees and I were talking about the message we ought to get out to you over this Memorial Day Weekend. General Bert says we need to alert you to a growing danger that we’ve warned about before: superbugs, resistant to regular treatment, are rapidly developing.

General Bert says Memorial Day is a good day to remember what happens when social systems are stretched to the breaking point, as they are during war. He reminds us that the 20th Century began with the “war to end all wars” and that war ended with the first modern pandemic, which killed more in two years that WWI killed in six years.

How did the “Spanish Flu Pandemic” get started? Image the circumstances: hundreds of thousands of GIs being trained in the midwest, given the new, experimental “live virus” flu vaccines… and then as many came down with the flu, they were given the new miracle fever-reduction drug, aspirin, which suppressed their symptoms as the soldiers, their horses, and the pigs and chickens that would feed them were loaded onto trains to the crowed debarkation port in South Carolina, to board ships to Spain.
