Lynn McTaggert publishes the interesting UK-based “What Doctors Don’t Tell You” newsletter and materials. We have never met but I read her material and hope that she reads ours.
Recently I read a heartfelt plea by Ms. McTaggert crying out for someone, anyone, to understand that health freedom and the restrictions of nutrients and natural health options (to which, of course, I would add both food and the right to refuse or use any treatment you wish), when under attack, IS their problem.
In 2002, when Ms. McTaggert saw what was going to happen to natural health options in the EU, she convened a meeting to which few came and fewer paid close and productive attention.
Her experience was so like mine that I felt compelled to answer her experience in the UK with ours here in the US. My response to Lynn McTaggert’s WDDK article “Not My Problem”,
I am the Medical Director of the Natural Solutions Foundation, www.HealthFreedomUSA.org and www.GlobalHealthFreedom.org.
I have practiced natural, that means drug free, psychiatry and medicine since I was graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1970.
It was clear to me for a couple of decades that these assaults on our health freedom, and the right to access clean food, natural health strategies and pharmaceutical alternatives was under an increasing crescendo of attack.
It was clear to me by 2004 that our side was doing nothing much productive to counter effectively what the Uber Cartel, led by Big Pharma, were up to: globalized health and freedom suppression and genocide through illness based on dangerous drugs, pollution and devitalized foods that do not sustain health, let alone life.
Realizing that there was no road back once these changes were institutionalized, my husband, Maj. General Albert N. Stubblebine III (US Army, Ret.) closed our practice of drug free medicine, sold our house and created the Natural Solutions Foundation.
Why didn’t we just join forces with other health freedom organizations? Well, we tried. The first thing we did was call a well known health freedom advocate and offer our help and support. financial and otherwise. His response? “I do not like you because I do not know you, I do not trust psychiatrists and there is nothing you can do for health freedom. Just send money and leave me alone.” That is a direct quote.
We were so appalled that an apparent leader of this “movement” would be so short sighted and self absorbed, with no better prospects on the horizon, that we were catapulted into our decision to take this battle on since no one particularly effective or strategy-minded was on the scene.
Next, we met with other people in the “movement” and suggested in early January, 2005, a meeting of all the groups involved in this battle, much as Lynn did. That meeting took 6 weeks to organize. Most of the invitees did not come. Those who did were most occupied with slashing at each other behind backs and to faces. The outcome was predictable: nothing of any use whatsoever.
We were told that people were cowed by the vicious attacks of the first person I mentioned and so, in true co-dependent fashion, allowed the least stable person in the system make the most important decisions through bullying.
Another so called “leader” called us up and told us that we were not “permitted” to run a health freedom rally because “Health Freedom BELONGS [emphasis added] to the XXXX Foundation, as does all money involved in health freedom.” Again, not a very productive approach to winning a war, one might say.
And so it went. Petty jealousy, foolish self-interest and a movement so out of control that it could only be explained by ego or agents provocateur, or, as we believe the case to be, both.
Another example: in the US, where the Natural Solutions Foundation is based, we had a unique phenomenon develop during the most recent Presidential elections: through www.Change.org we were able to create the 10 top issues in the US according to people’s electronic votes. Those issues would, we learned, be presented to the newly elected President of the United States as the major concerns of the people of the US.
We seized the opportunity and created a health freedom item. We then wrote to every health freedom organization asking them to join with us to bring our issue to the forefront of awareness. The name of our organization did not appear anywhere in the item. We asked all of these organizations to urge their members to use their collective power and move the Health Freedom item up to number 1.
What did they do? Several of them actually banded together to urge their members to use the voting format to vote DOWN the health freedom item because they were not the initiating organization.
We made it, if I recall, to Number 8, if I recall, which was enough to be included in the top 10, but hardly where the issue should have been.
And, of course, every time the Natural Solutions Foundation accomplishes something like, for example, forcing the disastrous phony Food Safety Bill off the voting agenda, or stops the mandatory Swine Flu vaccine program the federal government was planning in the US, we get attacked as – of all things – “controlled opposition”.
Then there are the manufacturers and business people. Exactly as Lynn described it, when their ox is being gored, they have a hard time seeing it. When their ox is not being gored, they could not be less interested, many of them. Of course, there are the far sighted exceptions, but I share with Lynn the awareness of how important action is and how little the organizations and, in many cases, the companies involved are willing to see beyond their own noses.
So, in essence, it is up to us, the people.
The Health Freedom Organizations are either infiltrated, underfunded or ineffective. The Wellness companies are either blind or so burdened trying to stay in business that they cannot see the forest for the trees even though the forest is advancing like the forest in Macbeth!
What to do? Exert the strength of a powerful netroots and take this struggle on as your own. Because it is. What we are struggling about is not pills and powders. It is health and freedom, the right to control our own bodies, make our own choices.
It is the right to seek, or refuse, any treatment or health strategy which we desire.
It is the right to access clean, unadulterated food and high potency nutrients because we want to, under whatever terms we want to use them.
It is the right to share and study truthful information about the benefits of food and food components in a climate of free inquiry, not criminalization or regulatory gag rules, as is currently happening under Codex and in the US.
Just weeks ago, the European Parliament agreed to stop requiring the labeling of GMO “foods” and ingredients. This is a horrific blow to your freedom in Europe, which has already been accomplished in the US where such labeling is FORBIDDEN. This, of course, follows the secret meeting of the 27 heads of state of Europe last October 22 in London to find ways to compel the people of the EU to accept GMO foods despite their vigorous objections to it.
Gag rules to prevent health information (called “claims”) from being shared are the order of the day of the corrupt and industry-owned FDA (which we in the Natural Solutions Foundation refer to as the Fraud and Death Administration) and are one of the tools of Codex to make sure that your only options are drugs and, eventually, death, after serious profit from that death march.
Truly, either we do what needs to be done, or what they want done to us will prevail.

Not My Problem

In 2002 my magazine What Doctors Don’t Tell You first learned about plans within the European Union to radically restrict natural medicine across all member countries, starting with laws that would create a very low ceiling of ‘safe upper limits’ in vitamins.
Although the laws were ostensibly to create a level playing field within the European supplement market, the proposals bore the heavy hand of Big Pharma.
At the time, the solution appeared simple. The majority of people in the UK use some form of natural medicine. All we needed to do was to band together, whip up a national protest, and the laws would be stopped in their tracks.
In early 2003, we invited all the heads of the largest vitamin companies and representatives from all the leading natural medicine organizations – homeopathy, herbal medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and many others – to a meeting in central London.
Many of the organizations never showed up. Of the 50 or so who did, many groups felt that our concerns were alarmist. Others welcomed the new moves as good for business. A few attempting to fight the legislation were busiest fighting each other.
No group seemed able to see the bigger picture. Each organization was mainly concerned with whether their own business was under fire. If it wasn’t – and at the time it wasn’t for many of the disciplines – they weren’t interested. Not my problem.
Big Pharma had big plans all those years ago. Unless there is sufficient opposition, within the next year or two, laws will come into effect in Europe that will drastically restrict the access of all Europeans to high-dose vitamins and herbal medicine.
Most therapeutic herbal medicine, plus forms that are new to the West, such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese herbal medicine, will effectively be banned. And although homeopathy has emerged unscathed from future EU law, the British Medical Association is working to eliminate funding for NHS homeopathic hospitals.
This pogrom will not end in Europe. The near identical international laws that have been drafted within the United Nations suggest that a well organized and concerted effort is under foot to finish off any alternative to orthodox medicine.
The plan is to watch Europe closely to assess the level of consumer protest. Thus far, that protest has been minimal. The two consumer groups that have maintained any sort of consistent attack – the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH) and Consumers for Health Choice who have challenged the law and lobbied parliament are starved of funds.
The individual organizations to this day remain isolationist. Not my problem.
This attitude reminds me a bit of the speech given by Pasto[r] Martin Niemoller about the passivity of many German groups to the purging by the Nazis of group after group.
First they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for me for me
and then there was no one left to speak out for me.
For all of us wishing to maintain alternatives to drug-based orthodox medicine, these laws are all of our problem, and every last one of us has an obligation to speak up now…..

Why didn’t we take a quicker, more direct route? Because neither General Stubblebine nor I am willing to expose our bodies to the radiation hazard of full body scanners and neither Madrid nor Geneva airports use full body scanners.

“…Why the Codex Apple? The apple suggests wholesome food.
Nothing could be further from the truth. As if to underscore the destruction of the world’s food supply, the 33rd Meeting of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, July 5-9, 2010 (Geneva, Switzerland) approved a standard for apples which permits not more than 5% of the apples to be composed of ACTIVLY FEEDING INSECTS!
When India and other countries protested that this unprecedented approval of filth as “food” would lead to poor quality and inedible food being dumped in the poorest nations, the Secretariat clarified that this standard permits FEEDING insects, not PEST insects. Despite the strong protest expressed by numerous countries, large and small, the US, EU, Argentina, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand, the countries least likely to wind up with these insects on their dinner plates, bulled their approval through with the complicity of the Codex Commission Chairperson, the US’s Karen Hullebeck.
Everything else done by this Codex session continues to degrade the world’s food supply despite the continuing, but continually ignored, protests of the developing world.

We got to Geneva and continued our preparation for the meeting. You see, in order bring you intelligent, meaningful and precise information in our daily video and written reports and later create meaningful strategies to deal with Codex and its dangers, we need to do a major amount of planning and preparation.
Codex is designed to be overwhelmingly complex, detail driven and difficult to comprehend because the technical level of the considerations is so enormously demanding if you are going to understand it all. Delegates are just supposed to be so overwhelmed that they simply sink into a lulled position in which whatever the US or EU says is what they go along with, sort of like the courtiers just letting the red queen do what she likes in Alice and Wonderland because it is so much easier and safer.
But at Codex, as in so many other urgently important situations, the devil really IS in the details. Consider:
There are 15 Committee Reports to be studied from major codex Committees (http://www.codexalimentarius.net/web/archives.jsp) for the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) session starting on Monday, July 5.
The Report of the Codex Executive Committee has 28 pages
The Committee on Food Labeling has 58 pages
The Committee on Contaminants in Foods has 69 pages
and so on through the 15 committees presenting their items for discussion at the CAC.

Potentially buried in each one of the clauses, phrases, reports and agenda items is a time bomb that can, despite its innocuous language, kill people through the implications and permissions granted via its legalese.
Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) and GMO labeling are excellent, but by no means unique, examples. Both of these issues are highly technical and both, if carried out as the US desires, would lead to highly undesirable outcomes. NRVs are daily intake values of nutrients so low that they actually introduce and make permanent, the under-nutrition which WHO and FAO point out as the primary cause of the non-communicable, preventable, degenerative killer diseases: cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. Misleading consumers into believing that their processed food provides adequate levels of vital nutrients, the NRVs are both a biochemical absurdity and an atrocity since they will, through their use on labels, lead people to believe that since their food is providing most or all of the NRVs, it provides the nutrients they need for a healthy life.
NRVs have been winding their way through the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) and the Committee on Food Labeling (CCFL). When South Africa was discussing them in 2005 at CCNFSDU, Dr. Grossklaus, the Chairman cut the delegate off at the knees when she mentioned “optimal nutrition” and said “It would be nice if Codex were about nutrition, but it isn’t. It’s about trade!” But most delegates have no idea what biochemical individuality is about, why high potency nutrients save lives, money and misery and the discussions must include the technical issues of the Codex texts and committee which are dealing with NRVs, their status in the CAC, etc. To learn more about where this nutrients as toxins, nutrients as controlled substances, idea in Codex, click here to watch “Nutricide”: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5266884912495233634#

GMO labeling is another example, as is whether Codex should define consensus or a code of ethics for codex participants. In these discussions and decisions, information lies which could, going in one direction, change history and survival for good and, going in the other direction, could do exactly the opposite.
Each Agenda Item rests on a multi-year background with a huge pile of data and debate behind it. Having that perspective is essential to informed, effective dialogue with the delegates at Codex and in their home countries. And that is what we do at Codex! We take your interests, and those of well-nourished, autonomous, food independent people and “bang them against” what Codex is doing. The lives of food producers, food consumers and the planet turn on these tiny nuances since all of the Codex documents are written in such a way as to lull you into a fluorided haze of complacency. There is, however, nothing to be complacent about.
There is also nothing worth participating in at Codex. It is my contention that the United States needs to get out of Codex and do it now. We will lose nothing and grain a great deal, I believe, by loosening the hold that we have allowed the World Trade Organization, WHO, to place on us through trade agreements that can only inevitably degrade our food and our health unless we follow the Codex Two Step Process, as other nations have done successfully. If we were out of Codex, I believe that two things would happen:
First, it would be a great deal easier for interested parties to apply pressure to force the US to deviate from the Codex guidelines and standards since we would not have teams of experts ramming these guidelines and standards through Codex and, second, we would not be twisting and distorting the entire Codex process, making the decisions that the US wants, not the ones that protect the farmers, the consumers and the earth. There are at least a hundred equally vital items before the CAC this week. They would be far better decided by the national competencies of the countries rather than by the “bully of the class” threatening the other kids in the class with the active and vigorous help of the corrupt and self interested “teacher”, WHO, a corrupt and genocidal organization which acknowledges that it wants to see the population of the earth reduced by a minimum of 80%, better 90%!
So what we do is prepare for the topics of greatest interest to you and to the developing world’s delegates, mingle with delegates and share our perspectives on these topics and provide leadership for dissent strategies. Then, very importanty, we offer them information on how they can increase crop yield, decrease food born illness, and, in reality, actually accomplish exactly what Codex says it is about.
And we report. After each day’s meetings, we make sure that you know what the highlights (and low points) of the day’s proceedings have been, what they mean for you, what they mean for the dangerous forward movement of “HARMonization” by the US and how to protect ourselves, our health and our health freedom.
Attending Codex is really hard work. We do it for you, with your support because it is hugely important. At the end of a Codex meeting we are exhausted. Then we fly home to Panama to put the things we are teaching the developing world into practice.

We left our home at the Valley of the Moon Eco Demonstration Project in Volcan, Panama, www.NaturalSolutionsFoundation.org, to get on a plane to Panama City, then another one to Madrid and another one to Genva two days ago so that by the time we reached Switzerland we had not slept for about 48 hours. Why didn’t we take a quicker, more direct route? Because neither General Stubblebine nor I am willing to expose our bodies to the radiation hazard of full body scanners and neither Madrid nor Geneva airports use full body scanners.
We got to Geneva and continued our preparation for the meeting. You see, in order bring you intelligent, meaningful and precise information in our daily video and written reports and later create meaningful strategies to deal with Codex and its dangers, we need to do a major amount of planning and preparation.
Codex is designed to be overwhelmingly complex, detail driven and difficult to comprehend because the technical level of the considerations is so enormously demanding if you are going to understand it all. Delegates are just supposed to be so overwhelmed that they simply sink into a lulled position in which whatever the US or EU says is what they go along with, sort of like the courtiers just letting the red queen do what she likes in Alice and Wonderland because it is so much easier and safer.
But at Codex, as in so many other urgently important situations, the devil really IS in the details. Consider:
There are 15 Committee Reports to be studied from major codex Committees (http://www.codexalimentarius.net/web/archives.jsp) for the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) session starting on Monday, July 5.
The Report of the Codex Executive Committee has 28 pages
The Committee on Food Labeling has 58 pages
The Committee on Contaminants in Foods has 69 pages
and so on through the 15 committees presenting their items for discussion at the CAC.
Potentially buried in each one of the clauses, phrases, reports and agenda items is a time bomb that can, despite its innocuous language, kill people through the implications and permissions granted via its legalese.
Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) and GMO labeling are excellent, but by no means unique, examples. Both of these issues are highly technical and both, if carried out as the US desires, would lead to highly undesirable outcomes. NRVs are daily intake values of nutrients so low that they actually introduce and make permanent, the under-nutrition which WHO and FAO point out as the primary cause of the non-communicable, preventable, degenerative killer diseases: cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. Misleading consumers into believing that their processed food provides adequate levels of vital nutrients, the NRVs are both a biochemical absurdity and an atrocity since they will, through their use on labels, lead people to believe that since their food is providing most or all of the NRVs, it provides the nutrients they need for a healthy life.
NRVs have been winding their way through the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) and the Committee on Food Labeling (CCFL). When South Africa was discussing them in 2005 at CCNFSDU, Dr. Grossklaus, the Chairman cut the delegate off at the knees when she mentioned “optimal nutrition” and said “It would be nice if Codex were about nutrition, but it isn’t. It’s about trade!” But most delegates have no idea what biochemical individuality is about, why high potency nutrients save lives, money and misery and the discussions must include the technical issues of the Codex texts and committee which are dealing with NRVs, their status in the CAC, etc. To learn more about where this nutrients as toxins, nutrients as controlled substances, idea in Codex, click here to watch “Nutricide”: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5266884912495233634#.
GMO labeling is another example, as is whether Codex should define consensus or a code of ethics for codex participants. In these discussions and decisions, information lies which could, going in one direction, change history and survival for good and, going in the other direction, could do exactly the opposite.
Each Agenda Item rests on a multi-year background with a huge pile of data and debate behind it. Having that perspective is essential to informed, effective dialogue with the delegates at Codex and in their home countries. And that is what we do at Codex! We take your interests, and those of well-nourished, autonomous, food independent people and “bang them against” what Codex is doing. The lives of food producers, food consumers and the planet turn on these tiny nuances since all of the Codex documents are written in such a way as to lull you into a fluorided haze of complacency. There is, however, nothing to be complacent about.
There is also nothing worth participating in at Codex. It is my contention that the United States needs to get out of Codex and do it now. We will lose nothing and grain a great deal, I believe, by loosening the hold that we have allowed the World Trade Organization, WHO, to place on us through trade agreements that can only inevitably degrade our food and our health unless we follow the Codex Two Step Process, as other nations have done successfully. If we were out of Codex, I believe that two things would happen:
First, it would be a great deal easier for interested parties to apply pressure to force the US to deviate from the Codex guidelines and standards since we would not have teams of experts ramming these guidelines and standards through Codex and, second, we would not be twisting and distorting the entire Codex process, making the decisions that the US wants, not the ones that protect the farmers, the consumers and the earth. By the way, the Developed World is one of the major consumers of third world-produced toxic food. Here is the link to my video:

There are at least a hundred equally vital items before the CAC this week. They would be far better decided by the national competencies of the countries rather than by the “bully of the class” threatening the other kids in the class with the active and vigorous help of the corrupt and self interested “teacher”, WHO, a corrupt and genocidal organization which acknowledges that it wants to see the population of the earth reduced by a minimum of 80%, better 90%!
So what we do is prepare for the topics of greatest interest to you and to the developing world’s delegates, mingle with delegates and share our perspectives on these topics and provide leadership for dissent strategies. Then, very importantly, we offer them information on how they can increase crop yield, decrease food born illness, and, in reality, actually accomplish exactly what Codex says it is about.
And we report. After each day’s meetings, we make sure that you know what the highlights (and low points) of the day’s proceedings have been, what they mean for you, what they mean for the dangerous forward movement of “HARMonization” by the US and how to protect ourselves, our health and our health freedom.
Attending Codex is really hard work. We do it for you, with your support because it is hugely important. At the end of a Codex meeting we are exhausted. Then we fly home to Panama to put the things we are teaching the developing world into practice.

David Korten is both a change agent and an observer of change. He has written a provocative article called, :The Big Picture: 5 Ways to Know if You’re Making a Difference”.
He says that if you can answer “YES!” to ONE of the following criteria, you are making a difference.

The Big Picture: 5 Ways to Know if You’re Making a Difference

For the many millions of us working to create a better world, it is easy to feel discouraged by the seeming insignificance of even major successes relative to the scale of the problems we face as a nation and a species. Consumed by the details and challenges of our daily engagements, we may easily lose sight of the big picture of the powerful social dynamic to which our work is contributing.
Step back from time to time; take a breath, look out beyond the immediate horizon to bring that big picture back into perspective. Reflect in awe and wonder at the power of the larger social dynamic to which your work contributes.
In my career in international development, I saw, time and again, that the most successful projects were not the largest or the most carefully, centrally planned; they were the ones that arose from the bottom up. Likewise, successful social movements are emergent, evolving, radically self-organizing, and involve the dedicated efforts of many people, each finding the role that best uses his or her gifts and passions. Their scope and their success may not, at first, be readily apparent. Social movements grow and evolve around framing ideas and mutually supportive relationships instead of through top-down direction. New ideas gain traction, or not, depending on what works for those involved in the movement. Some alliances are fleeting; others endure.
The organism, not the machine, provides the appropriate metaphor. The relevant knowledge resides not in the heads of outside experts but in the people who populate the system. The challenge is to help them recognize, organize, and use that knowledge in ever more effective ways.
This is the model I think of when I think about what it will take to build the New Economy—one based on fulfilling the basic needs of people and planet—that we need. It’s also the way that that economy is already being built: step by step, in creative and surprising ways, by people looking for alternatives to a system that isn’t working for them.
To bring down the institutions of Empire, we must begin to build the rules, relationships, and institutions of a New Economy. These must be lived into being from the bottom up.
So how do you know whether your work is contributing to a big-picture outcome? If you can answer yes to any one of the following five questions, then be assured that it is.
1. Does it help discredit a false cultural story fabricated to legitimize relationships of domination and exploitation and to replace it with a true story describing unrealized possibilities for growing the real wealth of healthy communities?
2. Is it connecting others of the movement’s millions of leaders who didn’t previously know one another, helping them find common cause and build relationships of mutual trust that allow them to speak honestly from their hearts and to know that they can call on one another for support when needed?
3. Is it creating and expanding liberated social spaces in which people experience the freedom and support to experiment with living the creative, cooperative, self-organizing relationships of the new story they seek to bring into the larger culture?
4. Is it providing a public demonstration of the possibilities of a real-wealth economy?
5. Is it mobilizing support for a rule change that will shift the balance of power from the people and institutions of the Wall Street phantom-wealth economy to the people and institutions of living-wealth Main Street economies?
These are useful guidelines for setting both individual and group priorities. Bear in mind that in a systems-change undertaking of this magnitude, there is no magic bullet and no one is going to make it happen on their own, so don’t be discouraged if the world looks much the same today despite your special and heroic effort yesterday. It took five thousand years to create the mess we are in today. It will take more than a few days to set it right.
