On Saturday, November 19, 2005 I attended the Codex Working Group on Infant Formulas which operates as part of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Food for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU).
It was a fascinating day (if you like watching decision made which will potentially impact negatively on every single child on the planet who is not breast fed. This working group is setting standards which all manufacturers who ship formula internationally must follow AND which those countries unwise enough to pass these regulations as their own domestic laws on infant formula must follow, too.
Here is the highlight of the day:
Dr. Barbara Schneeman, Director of the Dietary Supplements Department of the FDA urged the Working Group to allow fructose in baby formula. Now that is quite fascinating, really, because our own FDA prohibited the use of fructose in the beverage supply of the US because it was high in empty calories, and likely to bring about preventable diabetes, obesity (and with it cancer and cardiovascular disease) and a host of other ill health effects, especially in children and adolescents. Manufacturers, whose bottom line is the bottom line, protested and forced the FDA to abandon its health-protective stance by allowing fructose (also known by names such as “high fructose corn syrup”) into the food supply BECAUSE CODEX ALLOWS FRUCTOSE.
So the FDA knows full well that fructose is associated with a decline in health associated with an increase in obesity and diabetes. Remember, the US is battling an epidemic of juvenile and adult obesity and another [related] one of juvenile and adult diabetes, both preventable disorders.
So why would Dr. Schneeman argue for the inclusion of this health-degrading substance in baby formula? Babies need about 670 calories per 100 grams of formula, according to the working group (older and younger babies do not seem to get special nutritional recognition: perhaps they figure that older babies will just tank up on more fluid in order to get more of what they need). How many of those calories should be from empty, dangerous, insulin-spiking sweeteners for which there is no nutritional requirement whatsoever?
And how many of those calories should be for something that teaches babies to demand sweet foods despite the fact that the perfect baby food, breast milk, does not have fructose in it?
Oh, yes, the fructose generally comes from corn. And, oh, yes, the corn is generally genetically modified (GM). And, oh, yes, the genetically modified corn and anything made from it does not have to be tested for safety before it is released into the food supply. Of course, the Working Group on Infant Formula has already approved GM soy for use in infant formula. The recent study Russian study showing that over 55% of rat pups whose mothers were fed GM soy died after failing to gain weight properly should suggest some caution to a truly “science based” process such as Codex claims to be.
Tragically, it would appear that the only science upon which Codex is based in the science of International Banking.
What can you do about it? Several things. Go to www.HealthFreedomUSA.org and take the following steps:
• Join the Citizen Petition (a legal challenge to the US government policy on Codex. (Do not be misled by those who mistakenly believe its purpose is to “persuade” government bureaucrats since whether they are persuaded or not is irrelevant to the legal process set in motion by the Citizen Petition. The more people who do so, the stronger our case before Congress.
• Tell Congress that you want a Congressional Briefing on Codex and tell them that you want Dr. Rima E. Laibow, MD, Medical Director of the Natural Solutions Foundation, to help them organize the briefing.
• Write to Congress to support and oppose the bills that will determine your health freedom by using our email engine. Let Congress know that your health and health freedom is important to you!
• Use any (or all) of several methods to support the critical work of the Natural Solutions Foundation
o Do your personal and holiday shopping at www.EatSafeEatSmart.com, your source for GM-free, organic personal products, snacks, foods and products. Every purchase helps to support the Natural Solutions Foundation
o Send your unwanted treasures and collectables (each worth at least $30) to us at the Dump Fund: take the item(s) to any common carrier (Federal Express, UPS, DHL, etc.), (you can have them pack it or do it yourself) and ship it to the D.U.M.P. Fund, at: NSF, 297 Passaic Avenue, Fairfield, NJ 07004. Questions? Email us at infor@dumpfund.org. You will get a letter for the sale price of your tax deductible donation for your records.

Bill 05130. That number should scare you witless. Don’t go looking for it in the Library of Congress legislative site. You won’t find it there. But if you search Australia’s pending legislation and find it, you are looking at what WILL happen here in the US if we do not mount the most effective grass roots campaign in history.
Here is what Bill 05130 will do if passed (and it has had 1 reading in the Australian Parliament so far):
A 5 year jail term for anyone using, importing or providing anything not approved by the TGA (Australian FDA).
A 5 year jail term for anyone using, importing or providing any food like substance, even if it has a history of use by people for health purposes, which is not approved by the TGA (Australian FDA).
A long time health activist, when I was explaining about Codex Alimentarius, who is well into her 70’s, shrugged and said as I was telling her about the prohibition on nutrients at effective doses, “Well, we will always have veterinary medicine. I am not worried since I can always get what I need from that direction even if it is illegal!” True. But if Australian-style “health freedom” comes to visit our fair shores, this nice little old lady will be wearing prison lingerie and an orange jump suit.
Australia’s TGA and our own FDA (and, most importantly, the people and industries pulling the strings) have no commitment to health and no love of freedom. You and I do, of course, but unless we make up with audibility of our opinions what we lack in dollars for lobbying and marketing, we will follow Australia into the arid and deadly wasteland of preventable suffering and premature death because of toxic food and a total ban on immune-supporting and life giving legal nutritional supplements and herbs.
SHAME ON THEM! IS BIG PHARMA SO GREEDY THAT THERE IS ONLY ENOUGH PIE FOR HER SO EVERYONE ELSE STARVES TO DEATH! SHAME ON THEM!
Can’t happen here? Why not? Because you and I won’t let it happen here! Nothing but an activated and outspoken grass roots movement can stop this runaway waggon.
So here are the steps which urgently need to be taken by you and then passed on to others:
1. Start a meetup and use it to grow the grassroots. You can let people know you are organizing a meetup and they can use the meetup link to find you. Need help? Email me at info@healthfreedomusa.org
2. Tell Congress to attend the Codex Briefing on September 20, Room 2220 Rayburn. Most members of Congress have no clue about Codex. We’ll let them know what Codex is really all about.
3. Please give generously. If you have, thanks. We are approaching the half way mark in our 30 day fundraiser and we have not yet made 50% of our goal. Please make it possible to keep fighting for your health and your health
freedom.
4. Send out emails to everyone you know and direct them to www.HealthFreedomUSA.org ask them to join the mailing list.
Listen! Can’t you hear the sound of the grass [roots] growing by the hour? I can! I feel like a gardener!

Freedom. It’s a beautiful word, isn’t it?
How about Monsanto? Is that a beautiful word?
And what happens when you bump Monsanto up against Freedom? Well, if you are in North Carolina, Monsanto flattens Freedom just about like the Road Runner got flattened by a steam roller in the old cartoons. Only the Road Runner popped back up again, because it was only make believe. This is all too real.
“Monsanto Laws” have been passed in 15 states which make it illegal for counties to ban the use of genetically modified foods . That’s right. Freedom just got squashed flat as a pancake. Farmers who want to protect their crops from degradation and contamination may not do so in 15 states.
Why do they want to? Well, for one reason, because if you are a farmer growing non GMO crops and Monsanto detects GOM pollinated plants on your farm, they will sue you and, if 500 cases are any indication, they will win. Your crime? Infringing on Monsanto’s “intellectual property” which blew onto your farm without your knowledge or consent.
Of course, if you are an organic farmer, you have additional problems. You can’t protect yourself by concerted community action and according to Laurel Hopwood of the Sierra Club,
“What’s unfortunate for farmers, especially organic farmers, is that pollen can move from place to place, so the spread of GMO gene traits is inevitable.” Hopwood adds, “What’s different about this form of pollution from any other form of pollution is that it’s alive. These new life forms multiply, spread, and cannot be recalled. … Not only are organic farmers not allowed to call their crop ‘organic’ when it becomes contaminated, but
also farmers can’t sell their crops overseas where GMOs are not accepted.”
Oh, by the way, there is a proposal in California, SB 1056, introduced by Dean Florez that would effectively remove a community’s control over its food supply. In part SB 1056 states “no ordinance or regulation of any
political subdivision may prohibit or in any way attempt to regulate any matter relating to the registration, labeling, sale, storage, transportation, distribution, notification of use, or use of field crops.”
That doesn’t sound very exciting until you realize that it says that all meaningful discourse and debate about GMO foods by local communities will be forbidden in California if this bill passes. This is what I call a legal dum-dum bullet: like a real dum-dum bullet which is scored on the tip to explode inside its target, this one sounds pretty ho-hum but, if passes, it will dovetail with the preemptive legislation States are falling all over themselves to pass which prohibits communities from protecting themselves or their crops and explode right in the belly of food freedom. Oh, yes, no government agency has ever conducted long-term meaningful GMO feeding studies to make sure that the information Big Biotechna puts out to assure us that GMOs are safe bears any resemblance to reality.
But California wants to join the other 15 States which will compel communities to plant what they are told and allow their fields to be contaminated as pollen drifts across their land without comment or complaint. Freedom? Lady Liberty? Have you seen her? Isn’t she that smudge on the road where the big truck with “Monsanto” painted across it just passed?
But GMOs are safe, aren’t they? Are they? In the EU, the dangers of Mon 863, a genetically modified corn, came to light only after a German court ordered Monsanto to reveal the data from a 90 day rat feeding study earlier this summer. Jeffrey Smith, author of “Seeds of Deception” wrote on August 27, 2005, “Rats fed Mon 863 developed several reactions, including those typically found with allergies (increased basophils), in response to infections, toxins and various diseases including cancer (increased lymphocytes and white blood cells), and in the presence of anemia (decreased reticulocyte count) and blood pressure problems (decreased kidney weights). There were also increased blood sugar levels, kidney inflammation, liver and kidney lesions, and other changes. According to top research biologist Arpad Pusztai, who was commissioned by the German government to evaluate the study in 2004, based on the evidence no one can say that Mon 863 will cause cancer or allergies or anything specific. The results are preliminary and must be followed-up to rule these out. He warns, however, “It is almost impossible to imagine that major lesions in important organs. . . . or changes in blood parameters. . . . that occurred in GM maize-fed rats, is incidental and due to simple biological variability.”
Dr. Pusztai was forced to sue the French government in order to be able to discuss his highly disturbing findings.
We’ll be taking more about this case tomorrow. In the meantime, give some thought to what it would take to shift to a diet that did not have GMOs in it if you were so inclined. Please share your thoughts by commenting on this blog.

Codex Allows Seven Deadly Pesticides Banned by Stockholm Convention and US Law
A smoking gun in the hand of an enraged man who is looking down at the inert corpse bleeding at his feet is the next best evidence to actually seeing the perpetrator pull the trigger. All of us who understand Codex as a threat (rather than the supposed “consumer protection” creature its apologists claim that it is) know that Codex is a sandbox in which the multinational corporations play their greed need games with no concern for the well-being of those who will pay the price in every coin. Those of use without our own illegal cattle, milk and supplements farms and factories will have no choice but to eat the food Codex has adulterated. We won’t have the nutrients we need when our natural health choices have disappeared because Codex has “protected” us from the “toxic nutrients” we used to take to keep our selves healthy.
What would you say if I told you that I had found Codex’s smoking gun, Codex’s dirtiest secret which is so foul that it makes clear just how far from a consumer protection system Codex is? Consumer protection like the Turks had in 1954-59 when they ate food grown from seeds containing Hexachlorobenzene and 95% of the children who were exposed in the womb died? Or protection like older people got when 14% of them died from the poison. Well, guess what! Hexachlorobenzene is but one of the seven deadly toxins Codex will let the Big Chema poison you with.
Well, we found the smoking gun. But how many consumers must it kill before we take the gun out of the madman’s hand?
If you are like me, you would both rejoice and come close to speechless frustration and outrage at the same time. How could “they” do this? What are they thinking” Where do they think they will raise their grandchildren?
Click here for Codex’s dirty secret: Codex permits 7 of the 9 most deadly chemicals known, all of which are illegal in the US and all of which have been banned by every member of Codex from being used anywhere on the planet.
The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants agreed upon a list of the 12 most poisonous chemicals in the world and 176 countries banned them. The US banned them, too. But Codex has a better idea (Smoking gun coming right up). Instead of protecting consumers, Codex says, “Let’s set dangerous pesticide and real toxic residue levels really, really high and let’s pretend that nutrients are toxins (so we can “protect” consumers from food without them, of course) and, best of all, [cock the trigger back: smoke coming up], we will, despite a global ban on the worst chemicals possible, will ignore all of that and pull the trigger!”
“We, Codex, will allow seven of the nine deadliest, nearly universally banned, pesticides known to human kind to be used on your foods! Allow us to protect you, dear consumer, at the point of a smoking gun!”
If we let our Congress know that we are on to Codex and the multinational corporations that are driving Codex and, in fact, pulling the trigger on the smoking gun, we can change the course of history and avoid eating foods poisoned with the seven deadly pesticides.

When you clean out the pig sty you are going to get mud on your clothes. The Natural Solutions Foundation has taken strong public positions to clean out some of the biggest, richest, strongest, dirtiest pig sties in the world. These sties have their own publicists and spin-meisters and we have all seen what they can do when the want you to believe something that is good for them, whether it is true or not. It’s called “propaganda” or “spin” or “lies” or “disinformation” or just plain “advertising”.
Let’s go back a few months: the President of the Natural Solutions Foundation, Maj. Gen. Bert Stubblebine was shocked to learn from the savage attack email of a supposed health freedom activist that he had been featured as a person who had a bunch of irrational beliefs (that he could walk through walls, for example) in a book whose author claimed to have interviewed him. Neither one was true. No walls, no interviews.
He was also identified as being things like a witch and a CIA agent. Again, not true.
(In fact, in Rome, yet another supposed health freedom activist advised people against having their picture taken with us since we were, you know, all those bad things and more!) That’s how rumor and innuendo works: spread it and watch it multiply itself into more and more absurd character assassination.
Then there was the Playboy article repeating the same untruth: I was really amused: my 75 year old husband made it to Playboy! You would think they would have given him the centerfold but, alas, they did not which showed what poor judgment they have. What they did was repeat a the lies the first guy had cooked up with an astonishing lack of fact-checking. They claim that they did fact-check but they got the facts wrong so I’d say they have a little fact problem since they published a passel of lies. The whole thing was still nonsense whether it was in a glossy chick pic mag or not.
Today, though, things got even weirder. The Executive Intelligence Review published Cheney’s ‘Spoon-Benders’ Pushing Nuclear Armageddon which makes you ponder the middle word in the magazine’s title.
In this one, somebody took the information in the book and Playboy article (still wrong) and added a bunch of incorrect assertions and some historical facts and some stuff about 9/11, put them in the intellectual blender and came out with the most astonishing nonsense yet.
Bert, who retired from the Military in 1984 and whose clearances expired when he left defense contracting about 7 years later (1991), and has had zero contact with that world since then, winds up in the article’s mish mash of illogic and is tied up with Cheney, exploding mutilated goats’ hearts, Nuclear Armageddon, The First Earth Battalion, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, torture, 9/11 and international terrorism!
And all that with not a single security clearance or one minute of contact with any one in a position to influence any of those things in 14 years!
Wow! What a guy!
What the publication of these articles and books says to him (and to me, too) is that somebody wants him, and through him, the Natural Solutions Foundation, besmirched and marginalized. So, while he is investigating the possibility of some pretty significant law suits against some pretty major companies and a number of individuals, we are also watching with interest (and some wry amusement) to see what nonsense is next. You know it’s coming, of course.
And we know, too, that the “irrationalists” will pick it up and sling it around. Repetition does not make anything more true if it was wrong the first time. And this stuff was really, really wrong the first (and second and every) time.
