Genetically Modified Organisms
Following is an article which should give you pause: Unless your food is grown by someone you can reliably feel is using only organic seed, organic means of production and is not subject to wind drift from genetic fields, OR UNLESS YOU GROW YOUR FOOD YOURSELF, you ARE eating FrankenFood.
What is FrankenFood? It’s food created from genetically modified (GM or GMO for Genetically Modified Organisms) plants and animals which have been feed GM feed stock.
Back when we were in school and in our mother’s kitchens, food was made from ingredients with simple names: corn, rice, beef, tuna, green peppers, beans, whatever. Today, what passes for food in the US and, increasingly, elsewhere, is fake food, food that has its origen in corn or soy which has then been torn apart in vast, gleaming laboratories and put back together again as new ingredients with old names: starch, flavoring, protein, and so on. But if the original vat stock was GM, then the resultant “food” is GM as well. And, as you will see in the article below, the vast bulk of corn and soy, the products from which a huge proportion of your food is made, are genetically modified in the US.
Any animal which eats GM food incorporates the foreign DNA into its cells and then, when you eat the meat of the animal, you incorporate them and any foreign or novel proteins which that DNA is coding for.
What effect do they have? The independent science carried out so far is uniformly damning: GM “foods” are dangerous in both the short term (as the tryptophane tragedy showed), in the intermediate term (as the studies in France, Russia and Scotland show) and in the long term … who knows? No studies have been carried out. Plants like the Epicyte Corn (patented in 2001 by Epicyte) and purchased by a consortium of Monsanto and DuPont, confer permanent male sterility in those who eat them since their novel DNA causes the cellular production of a spermicide. Unlabeled. Other intentional changes are equally horrific, to say nothing of the unexpected changes, which are untraceable since the food is unlabeled – by FDA fiat!
I was sitting at a meeting in California when a call came for the hostess of the meeting from a distraught young PhD food scientist. He had written, and tried to publish, a paper on some of the environmental dangers of a particular type of GM crop. Not only had his paper not been accepted by the journal to which he had submitted it, he had been immediately fired and was black listed at every university in the US. Interestingly enough, the department in which he had been employed has a huge grant from a major biotech giant. It seems that the grant ensures obedience and the death of academic freedom. The hostess was asked if she could help this PhD researcher find another job anywhere in the English speaking world. His efforts has been for naught to that point, despite outstanding qualifications.
What to do? Break the prepared food habit. Source your own food from organic growers, combine with neighbors to grow your own or move out of the US to someplace like Uganda, which has a moratorium on GM foods. It is probably easier to choose the first three options for most of us.
But farmers and consumers must be the voice – and the pocket book – of reason. Say no if it doesn’t say “Organic”. Protect yourself and those you love from contamination with dangerous, untested and unsafe FrankenFoods. Your life depends on it.

Oh, yes, there is one other thing you can do. Become a member of the Natural Solutions Foundation Health Freedom Rangers! Call the companies that make the products you like to eat. Ask to speak to someone in Customer Service. Get their name (write it down) and then, when you have the name right, ask if the products you are calling about are free from Genetically Modified Ingredients. Ask for a letter or an email stating that fact (or stating that they are not free from them). Then send that information to me at dr.Laibow@gmail.com with FRANKENFOOD as the subject. We’ll publish that data so that all of us can protect ourselves. The Power of the Pocketbook, like the Power of the Pen, is what works! We are the most powerful health freedom force on the planet. Information is our fuel and we can make these changes happen if we act together.
You probably do not want to eat FrankenNutrients, either.
Don’t forget that your supplements have to be organic, too. The Codex Commission, bowing to US pressure, as always, does not require labeling of GM food for export or import AND it is on the attack against adequate nutrition so supplements, both imported and domestic, are often made by, or from, genetically modified organisms. That means that you are being subjected to that foreign DNA and its effects even when you are spending money to be healthy! Buying organic, non-irradiated herbs and supplements, and those free of contaminants from those processes is exquistely important. If your manufacturer cannot assure you that your supplements and other health aids are not free from GM sources and ingredients, then they are not. Let us know about that, too, and visit Natural Solutions Foundation’s organic virtual store, www.Organics4U.org for nutrients which are free of GM contamination.
Remember, the choices are yours to make – for now. If you don’t make those choices now, there will come a time, in the very near future, in which the choice won’t be available anymore. Let’s work together to make sure that does not come about for ourselves and for the future generations on the planet.
Yours in health and freedom,
Dr. Rima

PS – Last month CNN and the NYTimes polled Americans about GMOs. 87% want GMO labeling; 57% won’t buy GMO if labeled.

Is Your Picnic Filled With ‘Franken-Foods’?
by Shawn Dell Joyce
Some 200 million acres of the world’s farms grew biotech crops last year, with over 90 percent of those crops coming from genetically engineered seeds patented by U.S.-based Monsanto.0713 04 1
Scientists have taken genetic material from one organism (like a soil bacterium), along with an antibiotic resistant marker gene, and spliced both into a food crop (like corn) to create a genetically modified crop that resists specific diseases and pests.
There has been no long-term, independent testing on the effects of these “Franken-foods†on the ecosystem or human health.
In the early 1990’s when biotechs were being evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, several key FDA scientists warned that GE crops could cause negative health effects. These scientists were ignored and blanket approvals of GE crops were passed.
It would be difficult to avoid eating genetically modified organisms in our country because they are so pervasive in the food system and unlabeled in the grocery stores.
Part of the reason for this is biotech giants fought to keep GMO foods unlabeled.
Most recently, the growth hormones from GE organisms known as rBGH, which is given to cows to make them produce more milk, were banned in Europe and Canada after authorities learned about the health risks of drinking milk from cows treated with rBGH hormones.
American milk producers started labeling their milk “rBGH and rBST free.†Monsanto, which sells bovine growth hormones under the brand name Posilac, has successfully sued dairy producers to force them to stop labeling their milk.
In addition to most milk products, GMOs can be found in commercially farmed meats and processed foods on store shelves. In our country, 89 percent of all soy, 61 percent of all corn, and 75 percent of all canola are genetically altered.
Other foods, like commercially grown papaya, zucchini, tomatoes, several fish species, and food additives like enzymes, flavorings and processing agents, including the sweetener aspartame and rennet used to make hard cheeses, also contain GMOs, according to Greenpeace.
To complicate matters, GMOs move around in the ecosystem through pollen, wind and natural cross-fertilization. The Union of Concerned Scientists conducted two independent laboratory tests on non-GM seeds “representing a substantial proportion of the traditional seed supply†for corn, soy and oilseed.
The test found that at “the most conservative expression,†half the corn and soy were contaminated with GM genes, eight years after the modified varieties were first grown on a large scale in the U.S.
The reports states that “heedlessly allowing the contamination of traditional plant varieties with genetically engineered sequences amounts to a huge wager on our ability to understand a complicated technology that manipulates life at the most elemental level.â€

What can you do to avoid GMO’s?
• Know how your food is grown by buying directly from local farmers.
• Support organic agriculture, and food producers who label their ingredients, particularly dairy farmers.
• Eat pastured meat raised on organic feed. The only way to ensure this is to buy from someone you know.
• Support farmers who are sued by biotech giants. Monsanto has set aside an annual budget of $10 million and a staff of 75 devoted solely to investigating and prosecuting more than 150 farmers for a total of more than $15 million.
• Demand labeling on all GMO-containing products.
