Chelation, a marvelous health choice for healthy hearts and vessels, and, it turns out, strong bones, is a safe, simple and widely demonized process.

.
I’ll be 75 next month.  You can bet I do chelation on a regular basis to protect my bones and my heart! I had a stroke when I was 31 and I am not about to have another. This winter, to make sure it was safe for me to go skiing, I had a bone density scan.  I have the bones of a 30 year old.
.

Did I Mention that I Do Chelation Regularly? And I Do It Orally.

I am a chelating physician.  I am trained and authorized to use IV chelation procedures with substances that literally form molecular cages around metals that do not belong in the body (e.g., mercury, lead, etc.), or ones that do but are in the wrong place (e.g., calcium in vascular plaques, etc.) and flush them out through the kidneys and bowel tract.

Now, let me share a dirty little secret with you: Chelation done by the oral route is cheap. Chelation done by the IV route is expensive.  If the oral chelate is the right kind, they are pretty much equal in effect. But the money, for the chelating docs, is in the IVs.  I know.  I am a chelating doc.  So of course they would rather have you do it the IV way. After all, they have to make a living, too.

I also know that means a great many people who need it cannot afford the cost, which ranges somewhere between $100 and $200 per session. A course of chelation is generally to be considered to be 20 sessions. A chelation course is often repeated for various [good] reasons.
.
Now, don’t get me wrong: there are some emergency situations where IV is the absolute right way to go: a gangrenous foot, for example, where intensive treatment is urgently needed NOW to restore circulation, or an impending cardiac event,  IV is the answer.
.

But Most of the Time, Thank Goodness, We are Facing Issues,
Not Cataclysms, so We Have the Luxury of Oral Chelation

Oh, did I mention that there is a serious problem with most oral chelation?  It does not work. That’s because EDTA, the safe, non-toxic compound that does the work in chelation, is inactivated in the stomach so only about 5% is available to get into the blood where it works its magic.

That’s why, until recently, oral chelation was a great idea, but only that.  Now, thanks to a technology called Liposomal Formulation, the story is very, very different.
.
Liposomes is a fascinating one. The word derives from two Greek words: lipo (“fat”) and soma (“body”)  because it is made of phospholipids, a type if fat essential to every membrane in the body and to the brain, heart, mitochondria and more.
.
Liposomes were first described by British hematologist Alec D Bangham [2],[3],[4] in 1961 (published 1964), at the Babraham Institute, in Cambridge. In fact, Dr. Bangham with colleagues Jeff Watkins and Malcolm Standish wrote the 1965 paper that essentially launched the liposome “industry”.
.
Until very recently the use of liposomes was primarily directed at advanced targeted pharmaceutical deliver systems. Now, however, a small group of pioneering nutritional and medical foods companies is making especially important nutrients available by wrapping them in tiny bubbles of highly beneficial phospholipids.
.
EDTA, robed in phosphatidyl choline, makes its way directly through the wall of your stomach without exposing the EDTA to its contents.  Once in your blood stream, an omnipresent enzyme, catalase, opens the liposome.  Two things happen that your body will thank you for: first, the phosphatidyl choline makes its way to a multitude of sites to nourish them: membranes, mitochondria in your heart, brain and other vital tissues, and second, the EDTA, now released into your blood stream does just what it would do if you were sitting for an IV: it goes to work regulating normal detoxification of metals (both toxic heavy metals and nutritional metals like calcium that are in the wrong place).

While all that is happening, your bones are getting a make over: for the first three weeks after EDTA makes its way into your blood stream research shows that weak, poorly formed or scantily calcified bone is gently and safely restructured and then for the next 3 MONTHS it is repaired.
.
People often ask if during that three weeks you might be more prone to fractures if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia.  Millions of chelation sessions followed closely by thousands of chelating physicians (and the hostile eagle eyes of the ‘pharma phriendly’ regulatory agencies) have never observed this consequence.  The body’s wisdom seems, once again, on target protecting and repairing our bones when given the right stuff to use for the task!

Generally, people take half of the 2 oz bottle in some juice (any type is fine) in the morning and a few days later take the other half (refrigerate after opening, please) so that they take one bottle per week.

The night before and that morning, do not take any supplements that contain minerals because you do not want the EDTA focusing on the minerals in your supplements!
