For a very long time I resisted the idea of protection against fiat currency manipulation through the acquisition of gold.

Gold, I said, has no intrinsic value. And that is true.
.
Gold, I said, is useless in a crisis since you cannot eat, wear or plant it. And that is true.

Gold, I said, is manipulated to the benefit of the gold-holders, not to the benefit of the little guy. And that is true.

And then one day I had a realization which changed my attitude completely:

Gold is valuable because it is perceived as valuable, not for its real intrinsic industrial value, but it is highly prized and it appears that it always will be so it will pretty much always be the prime medium of exchange when emotions rule the times, which pretty much defines a crisis.

Gold is therefore more useful than any other medium of exchange precisely because it is multifocal. You cannot eat clothing. You cannot wear food but you can turn gold into any thing at all that you desire and someone else has in time or crisis. And we are talking about time of crisis.

And, finally, gold is absolutely manipulated for the benefit of the most powerful economic forces on the planet (not good guys, but powerful ones, to be sure). That means that they manipulate the price of gold to benefit those who own gold.

Shouldn’t that be us? Aren’t we heading into a time of crisis? Don’t we need to protect ourselves?

I believe the answer to all three of these questions is a resounding, and frightening, “YES!”

If you are like me, you do not have tons and tons of money (fiat or not) to invest in gold.

Most people think of purchasing gold by the Troy ounce. That’s 31 grams of gold. An ounce of gold cost about $1172 when the New York market closed last. That’s somewhere around $40 per gram.

And the NY price was down $25 from the previous day.

So gold is a great purchase right now while the price is being depressed.
