The new bill, S.3767, introduced on September 13th, an unusual late-session move, would reintroduce criminal penalties that were not included in the main bill! For more than a year, the plan to capture – and kill – clean, local, organic, independent and safe farming and gardening has been wending its way through Congress. Last year, the devastating HR 1279 passed although we put up a good battle, delaying it for quite a while. However, at the end of the day, a good battle followed by a loss is still a loss. Then the field of battle shifted to the US Senate and the fake “Food Safety” bill S.510, where we’ve held the forces of Big Agra and Big Govt at bay for nearly a year…

We pushed back with over a million emails to the House of Representatives, but, as noted, HR 1279 passed, although with some language weakly protecting local food production, and we pushed back again with over a hundred fifty thousand emails to the US Senate over one weekend in November 2009. The bill went nowhere until the end of August when it was reported out (as the FDA letter below admits, as a “compromise” between the pro-Big Agra Biz Democans and the equally pro-Big Agra Biz Republicats) without any of the protective language that might have saved clean, local, organic, independent and safe farming and gardening… Our thanks to the office of the Good Doctor from Texas for alerting us to this Friday-afternoon attempt by FDA to push the Senate!

So what does the FDA and HHS think about the millions of messages that Congress has received from We the People demanding redress of grievances, petitioning for protection for clean, local, organic, independent and safe farming and gardening? President Obama’s officials say, “Forget about it!”

The leaders of the FDA and HHS falsely imply that our local food production is a source of danger to the public. Rather, all of the “food poison” incidents cited are the result of factory “food” production. These high-level bureaucrats know this. They also know that the “Food and Drug Administration” presides over a drug industry that produces such dangerous “medicines” that, according to figures published in JAMA, over 150,000 Americans die annually in hospitals from “properly prescribed” – FDA-approved drugs. Yet these bureaucrats propose that Congress grant themselves even more power and yet more money (according to section 401 of S.510, $825,000,000 more) to harass local food production. We say to the Feds: prove to us you can oversee the safety of factory “food” production, and dangerous drugs and vaccines, before you presume to interfere with our local food sources!
